End of Semester Reflection
What have you learned regarding technology in
education this semester?
I have learned So much this semester about
technology. I learned that technology is so prevalent in education today, and
that it is advancing beyond belief. I learned that kids are advancing and
teachers need to keep up with the changing tide. It is so important to utilize
resources as a teacher. Using technology as a tool is important. There is
nothing worse than a teacher trying to use technology that they do not
understand, or use in the wrong way. Technology should aid in student learning
not distract students. It is useful when trying to engage students into a
lesson as well as using it during a lesson for demonstrations and various other
things.

Week 14
I found this article about the future of the
classroom. It started off by telling me a little bit about what the future
holds. It said that the future is starting to become a reality. Every student
will have their own iPad, possibly robots teaching students and teachers
lecturing online over webcam to hundreds of thousands of pupils at any given
moment. Education is already making steps toward this type of learning. The
editor of the article, Scott Olster, goes on to say, “But despite all the
hoopla over gadgets and new software, the future of education really
hinges on the shifting roles of teacher and student.” Scott Benson, a program
officer at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation explains, “The main shift is
away from what I'll call a teacher-in-classroom-centric model,” Instead, students
will learn at their own pace, using software that adapts to their strengths and
weaknesses.” I like the fact that technology is becoming so complex that it
will adapt to the learner rather than having the learner adapt to the
technology.
Week 13
Some features that I use on Word all the time are
the multilevel list option next to the bullet point option. I love this because
it makes it easy to create outlines for papers, or study guides. I also like to
use the dictionary, and the synonym finder. This helps me quickly see if I am using
proper terminology, and it helps me edit my final papers to make them use
bigger words so that I can sound more sophisticated.
One feature that I use on Excel is an program that
I do not use very often. However, I do use it to make rubrics under the online
program, Rubistar. I like making scatter plots on Excel, and I often use it to create pie charts if I have a presentation. I
have not been in a math class sense last semester. It was a statistics class
and we did have to use Excel a lot, but it was difficult to keep up with the fast paced class. This
could be used for a Math project.
One feature that I love to use on PowerPoint is the hyperlink
option. With this option it allows students to link a picture or clip art to a website.
It makes a PowerPoint flow really well and looks great. I also use the insert
picture from file option all the time. This can be a personal portrait or a
photo uploaded online. I also love to use the custom animation option it allows
the PowerPoint to reveal different bullet points at different times during a
presentation.
