Week Two

I was very impressed with the things Sir Robinson Kelly said during Ted Talk. It is interesting to think of how today's world is do different from the previous generation. The evidence was shown through the wristwatch example he gave to the audience. He said, "teenagers do not wear wristwatches" in today's generation a wristwatch would be obsolete only for the reason that it does not have any other purpose other then to tell the date and time "it's a single function device".

Some things that he said might be considered offensive or rebellious of  the way society programs people to think. I liked the illustration he gave about the man who was made fun of by his teacher because wanted to become a fireman ever sense he was a little boy. In the illustration the man became a fireman and ended up saving the teacher who made fun of him. Not everyone is built for a college education. There are areas in life that need to exist in order to have a stable world.

I think that utilizing technology within the classroom is a way to engage and relate to students on their level. Imagine the potential of students who have all the tools to succeed right at their fingertips. Sir Robinson Kelly said "we make very poor use of our talents" and I think we make poor use of them because we use them in unproductive ways. This generation has talent in technology. They understand it from the youngest of ages, and it is the responsibility of the teacher to make sure the resources that are at their disposal are being used properly to enhance learning.

Week One

All throughout my schooling up till my junior year in high school I never thought that I could or would have the passion to be a teacher. I was not very into school, I had bad grades, and honestly I was not interested in continuing my education beyond my high school years. It was in that eleventh grade year that I realized that I had a passion to coach.

My mentors in school had always been my coaches and my PE teachers. I looked up to them and they taught me so many values and life lessons  that I continue to uphold to this day. I came to the conclusion that I wanted to influence others as I had been influenced by those teachers/coaches. From that time on I have only excelled academically and overcome so many obstacles such as my learning disability. I decided that the best way to make an impact on adolescents was in teaching.

I believe that technology is a good thing to have within a class room. I have not had much experience with it in classes that I have been a part of, but I know that the world is changing and that teaching styles need to adapt to the era that the students are living in.

I think that technology brings a positive influence into a classroom setting if it is used correctly. However, because I have grown up with having to cope with a learning disability, so I also know that technology might become an obstacle for kids who might not excel within that environment. For example, because of my learning disability, it made my typing class ten times harder than it was for everyone else.
